Poor Al Gore. First he loses the big one, and now he misses out on being named the United Nations´ "Honorary Ambassador of Green"--passed over for a fairy.
Yesterday, October 25, 2009, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Kiyo Akasaka announced at U.N. headquarters in New York that Tinker Bell received the honor. Voice actors from "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" were on hand for the occasion, and UN delegates, staff, and families attended the world premiere of the film following the proclamation.
"We´re delighted Tinker Bell has agreed to be our Honorary Ambassador of Green," Mr. Akasaka said. "This beloved animated character can help us inspire kids and their parents to nurture nature and do what they can to take care of the environment."
Sorry Al. The inconvenient truth is that a cartoon character can apparently do more to inspire people to save their own planet. Tinker Bell´s latest adventure, "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure," can even be read as an environmentalist fable. In Pixie Hollow they ration pixie dust so they never run out, and have to catch the moon in a certain way to renew their resource. And what better green ambassador can there be than one who dresses in all-green clothing fashioned from leaves?
"Tinker Bell is a natural ambassador of Green, living consistently in harmony with the environment," the Disney folks said in a press release. "Her appointment as Honorary Ambassador of Green is a great opportunity for this beloved character to play a key role in inspiring kids.
