Ok, S_Coaster inspired this thread, but I'll kick it off.

We're not talking about "scary" or "scariest" movie moments, but moments that give you those "honor" goose bumps. The ones that make you stand tall and feel proud.

First off, it's not a movie, but, the US National Anthem gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. I've been a patriot ever since I was a kid.

Movie Goosebumps:

1. Superman opening theme.
2. Raiders Of The Lost Arc Opening Theme.
3. Star Wars Opening Theme
Hmm... I'm seeing a trend here. Ok, almost anything by John Williams.
4. "America's Flying Aces Blue Angels 50th Anniversary Edition"
If you were ever a fan of air shows performed by the Air Force Thunderbirds or the Navy Blue Angels, I HIGHLY recommend this documentary! It is amazingly well produced and narrated by John Travolta. I originally bought it at the Discovery channel store, but you can get it here too. Oh, and I get goose bumps from this documentary, in a section where Cpt. Butch Voris (the original Blue Angels flight team leader) is interviewed, and a brass section plays a spine tingling, proud theme... whoah, cool stuff, man! If you have the DVD it's at 06:21, but watch the segment from 05:20, it's a better setup for the delivery of the horn section.

Goose bumps you ask?

1. Anytime I see the Most Interesting Man in the World in the Dos Eques commercial.

2. When Clint Eastwood takes off his (bullet proof) big hunk of metal at the end of "Fist Full of Dollars".

3. Nichole Kidman naked in "Eyes Wide Shut".

4. Ren and Stimpy: When Ren loses all his teeth and there are nothing left but nerve endings.

5. The scene where we stare into the blue box in "Mulholland Drive".

6. Anytime we see Q show James Bond his new toys and gadgets.

7. Clint Eastwood in "Dirty Harry" - the "do you feel lucky, punk?" scene.

8. Buffalo Bill finally putting on the skin suit . . . that, and the "it puts the lotion in the basket" scene.

9. Anytime Morgan Freeman narrates.

10. The ten endings of "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" . . . actually, the room was just a bit chilly.

11. Whenever I see Florance Henderson's box come up in the opening credits of "The Brady Bunch".

12. All Bond girls.

13. All Austin Powers girls.

14. Listening to Christian Bale lose his temper on the set of T4.

15. Watching that guy on "Man vs. Food" eat anything with hot peppers.

16. The leg lamp in "A Christmas Story".

17. Simpson's episode where they go to London and we see that Judy Dench has her own dive called "Judy Dench's Fish n' Chips".

18. When the Smails kid picks his nose in "Caddyshack".

19. The Gimp in "Pulp Fiction".

20. Ruby Rod screaming his head off in "The 5th Element".

Easily number one for me was watching the Star Destroyer move overhead in the opening scene of Star Wars when I watched it opening day in 1977 at the age of 15. Though I have many other moments I prefer for a myriad of different reasons, as far as goosebumps, the opening shot in Stars Wars profoundly affected and rocked my world. It's probably difficult for any young person today to truly appreciate how monumental that opening shot was at the time. My life changed that day. Honest.

As Kilgore points out, sci-fi movies have offered their fair share of goose bump moments. Not only the opening of "Star Wars," but the giant mother ship rising up from behind the mountain in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" or our first sight of the star child at the end of "2001," to the strains of Richard Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra."

Personally, though, I like the moment we find out in "Field of Dreams" that Archibald "Moonlight" Graham (Burt Lancaster) could have become the greatest baseball player of all time. Instead, he became the greatest small-town doctor of all time. In the bigger scheme of things, which was really more important? And what does it say about the seemingly little things in life?

Tim,

Disturbing.

Eddie,

Maybe Santa will give you Emma's phone number for Christmas, if you've been good.

Kilgore,

I was only 3 in '77, but, I do remember my parents taking me to Star Wars (probably because I wouldn't shut up until they did) and thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Good call on the Star Destroyer opening.

John,

Ooh, the 2010 theme... how did I forget that one! That definitely qualifies! I like the "Field Of Dreams" example too. I'm not sure why, but the scene where "Terrance Mann" & "Ray Kinsella" hit the road and "Born To Be Wild" starts playing is a goose bump moment too.

I was 3 too when Star Wars came out but loved it.

T2 at the end when Arnold is melted down (after saying I "I know now why you cry, but it is something I can never do") and then when Sara Connor narrates at the end (that hit me profoundly). The movie showed so well the human condition(we are a mess as a whole).

I'll never forget going to the theater with my dad and watching Raiders of the Lost Ark. To this day that movie brings up great feelings.

wolvinator,

Good one! I think Cameron did extremely well in making Schwarzenegger & Hamilton's lines poignant.

A few people made tribute videos to Christopher Reeve, after he died, and posted them on YouTube and other video sites. One in particular gives me goose bumps to watch. What an amazing actor, and an amazing person. He'll always be someone I look up to.

In terms of 'honor' goosebumps, many of the scores for Jerry Bruckheimer & Don Simpson's earlier films were pretty patriotic and uplifting in nature i.e. The Rock, Crimson Tide. I may not be American but it had me going for a bit.
