Well, let me start by making a few things clear:

I completed the first game and liked it. Not "over the top" liked it but considered it a good experience.

Second, I have not completed Modern Warfare 2 yet. I'm about 25% in.

Third, SPOILER ALERT, do not read more if you do not want to know anything about the stages in the game.

Now, why do I not like the second game so far? Well, it seems the game have become a victim of Hollywood sequel logic. If the first one had an average of 50 enemies per sage the sequel should have at least 500. If the first cost $100 million the sequel should cost at least 500. If the first had decent music the second should at least have Hans Zimmer and so on.

So, instead of adding more style, more subtle changes and more atmosphere it seems they have gone for more mayhem, more violence (without a real cause and purpose) and in general a much more unrealistic game.

Now, there are highlights and these often come when there are less enemies, more tactics and in general a more "sneak" approach to finishing the level. However, these stages often ends in mayhem and 500 rounds per second as well. Not because you messed up but because the game dictates that this is how it should play.

Oh, and the level where you watch the bad guy shooting 100s of civilians while you help him escape (because you are under cover) just seems downright silly.

All that said, it still is a great multiplayer game but in the campaign so far... Not so much. I'm getting much more out of HALO 3: ODST and can't wait to try out OPERATION FLASHPOINT.

What do you think? Have you tried it yet? Am I getting old and simply can't stomach the genre?

I very much agree. It seems like enemy's come out of everywhere. No real strategy involved just unload your clip. My favorite levels are the sniper levels because there is some actual skill involved. Just finished the campaign last night and I was frustrated 80 percent of the game. Some of the later levels I ended up running through bad guys just to get the level over.

I really liked the campain. I played through the first time on Hardened so it was a little frustrating with people all over the place but at the same time I enjoyed the challenge. I liked it enough to start a second play through, now on veteran I am only on the second level though multiplayer often wins me over on what I decide to play. There is a place late in the game that reminds me of a movie I saw once. But I won't say anything about that here. But yes a little less realistic

As for the airport level what I really liked about that was the feelings that it imparted and getting that dread as to how terrible the attack was. I found it moving.

As for ODST to me the game only lasted like 5 hours? And I have long since grown tired of Halo so I traded it in for my preorder of Assassin's Creed 2.

Well I never played any of the campaigns, and I put this on my Xmas wish list. I am not a huge gamer, yeah I like the ocassional sports game (Madden 2010/NCAA 2010) But I do want to give this game a try. I am sure it is mindless fun, but just give me a gun and unlimited ammunition and let me go to town. I can remember the game BLACK, no skill just alot of gun play, now to me thats way COOL.

haven't beat it yet, but the single-player campaign feels almost like an afterthought to the multiplayer options, bottom line if you don't like online multiplayer, (or don't have your console connected to the internet) I wouldn't recommend this game

But I LOVE it!!!!

Henning,

What I wanna know is, when is DVDTOWN going to start posting video game reviews? I mean, you already have enough "video game geeks" around here.

I really quite enjoyed this game, while it abseloutley does take a moderatley realistic world and make it a pierce brosnan bond movie...
I saw this coming because while the gaming industry has deepened in its storytelling of late (ODST is a perfect example of this) Infinity Ward aren't Academy award writers and seeing as the average gamer is 16... (even though the game is "R" we all know who they're REALLY targeting)

the average gamer wants what MW2 delivers and while this is a bad thing from a narrative standpoint, games will ALWAYS be a medium of entertainment, while films can send a message, games are purely a money making form of entertainment. thats all the publishers see of it and the devs know it.

MW2 is for the masses and the masses want explodey-gun-wank lol

not that games cant send a message of course... I intend to shoot up my local terminal!

"Remember... no Russian!"

The game industry is in the same state the movie industry was in 60 years ago, factory made films that were EXCLUSIVE to certain cinemas and companies but when TV came along and movie studios were all forced to feed their titles through a single funnell (as in the end of consoles via such things as OnLive) we'll start to see studios making games soley from a quality standpoint so itll outsell the competing SOFTWARE! not HARDWARE!

eventually the industry will mature and we'll see some truly incredible stuff. until then its sequels, sequels and more sequels!

thus the world is saved from Sony churning out wank, unfinished exclusives just to fatten the release schedule ala Haze and Resistance and the origianl Uncharted.
great, but not enough time in the oven leaves rough edges.

sorry for the essay...
