Why don't they instead say 'hasta' to pork barrel politicians.

So are they just outlawed in electronics stores altogether? Sucks to be a home theater nut in Cali, I guess.

Since probably 99.9999% of all electronics worldwide are sold in California (why do people outside California call it "Cali"? I've never heard a single native Californian call it that), I'd say if the state demands better gas mileage from a TV set, the electronics companies will all conform to the new standard and make better models.

Or not.

So what do you natives of "Cali" call your state if not "Cali"?

Because most people are . . .

You're not alone, John. I love it (sarcastically) when anyone in the national news media that is not from Oregon pronounce the state name as Ore-gone. or Ora-gone. Most everyone here pronounces it as Ore-gun. I guess it's all part of knowing your environment, culture of natives, etc. Comparative to your point, nobody in Oregon ever shortens the name to Orie. I grew up in Washington and nobody there ever called it Wash or Washin' or anything shortened. Of course I have heard that state also mispronounced as War-shington.

The most frustrating of all about growing up in Vancouver, Washington, was telling strangers where you live. Average Joe asks, "So, where you from?" I answer, "From Vancouver, Washington". Joe gives a happy look and asks, "Oh, BC?" As if BC meaning "British Columbia" is not enough to tell you that it certainly IS NOT Washington. Homer Simpson - "D'oh!" After a while, I just started telling people I'm from Portland, Oregon (God forbid if I didn't say "Oregon" then they'd assume I'm from the state of Maine).

After living in Arizona, nobody ever got that name wrong, yet the popularity of calling it Zona or just plain old AZ was starting to catch on by the time I left.

Well, sorry for being "dumb".

I guess when I think back to when I was younger, I liked LL Cool J, and he had a song I liked called "Goin' Back To Cali". That may be where it stemmed from for me. Guess I'm just one of the dumb sheep.

Not at all dumb, Josh. Just from out of state.

(The first time I heard someone use the term "Cali" it was made by my uncle, back in the Fifties. He lived in Montana, I was a kid and my family and I were visiting him, and I didn't even know what he was talking about for a moment until it finally dawned on me what "Cali" meant.)

So, back on topic, does this "power hungry TV" thing mean that Cah-lee-foh-nee-uh (Governator pronunciation) residents will only have a few TV models to choose from?

Michael Reagan (on his talk show) always refers to California as...

"From the Left Coast"

You know... Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters, Gavin Newsome (San Franciso mayor), Jerry Brown, and almost the entire California State representatives... people like that.

Poor Arnold is not going to be able to save the state. Maybe Meg Whitman (former eBay CEO) will win the upcoming election for governor, and get a shot at dealing with Statehouse (almost all Democrats).
