I have two daughters, so I am Dad.

Hey, thanks but HDMI cables were the first thing I started swapping out during the process of troubleshooting. Obviously, I'll have to test against a second BD80 sample to satisfy myself regarding player audio switching capabilities .

I wanted to simplify my life and keep one player for everything: one player that would not require updating a 3.5K TV, or updating and running a 2.5K receiver to enjoy something more relaxed and casual than the full-out movie house experience at home. Seems there would be a decent market for compatibility with slightly older (but still awesome) equipment in these economic times, and that's exactly what the Pani promises. But it's not to be

Thanks again!

well rim you are the first to pull a bad bd player out of the box that i have read on here, so take a bow. lol. i have older equipment as well, no HDMI, no analog, just coaxial and digital bitsream inputs on my pre-pro. i'm cool with it, it sounds great to my busted ears. i was just a bit confused about the marantz not decoding DTS..for DTS has been standard on everything for quite some time, hence the recomendation for a swap to YOUR bedroom. (dad).

let us know what the problem was and how you got it resolved.

Hi,

I just bought the Panasonic DMP-BD80 and connected it to my Denon AVR3310, configured as a 5.1, by a HDMI cable. I'm very pleased with the video output, but audio is a problem...
On this HDMI I do not get any sound! When I connect the player with an additional optical cable, sound appears....?.

Can anyone tell me how to setup this equipment. I started with the default settings, and tried and tried all variations but it still won't work.

regards,
Guus

You probably need to check the players settings and change the audio setting to HDMI. Also you could have a bad HDMI cable.

Oh and another thing to check for, make sure you have the audio setup to HDMI on the received input as well.

Yes, you often have to set the receiver to HDMI Audio on input you want to use for the your Blu-ray player.
